Throughout the school year, and even the summer, you can often find students running outside during the day. Whether it’s the track or cross country team, students train to be their best. For a dedicated few, this includes participating in indoor track. From December to February, the members of the indoor track team prepare themselves for both the indoor and outdoor seasons. They start by training for their desired event. Athletes begin to attend meets in Jan., Sophomore Kayleigh Roberts said. Not only does it help them get more experience for outdoor track, it also keeps the members of the cross country and track team conditioned year round. Adding another season for the indoor track team is also a great bonding experience. “Being contained inside a dome all day with the team really brings everyone closer together,” Roberts said. “My favorite memory was when Gigi got in a sleeping bag and started crawling around the ground saying, ‘Look Kayleigh! I’m a caterpillar!’ It was so funny. We had some fun eating chips and salsa after racing too.” Junior Niki Vargo enjoys indoor track because of the extra practice it gives her. “I just like that I get to practice at Geneva for pole vault. It’s a really great opportunity that I get to practice during the winter, and going to the indoor meets starts getting me ready for the outdoor season,“ Vargo said. The team’s main goal this year is to pick up where they left off last season, and just improve overall. The indoor track team will soon be starting conditioning and is looking forward to a successful season.
