When I was 17
Mr. Henry Podbielski tells about his 17-year-old experience
Q: Where did you go to high school?
A: Beaver Falls High School
Q: What was your first job?
A: My first job was a cashier at the Old Economy Supermarket in Beaver Falls.
Q: What was your first car?
A: Chevy Bel Air and it was yellow and white.
Q: What did you like to do in your free time?
A: I liked to do shows: backyard shows. The neighborhood kids got together and did shows. We had our favorite songs and they would play the record and they would go up on the stage we built.
Q: Where did you like to hang out?
A: There really wasn’t a place to hang out so, we hung out in my backyard. There was a bunch of neighborhood kids, so we basically were in each other’s yards all the time.
Q: How would you describe yourself as a 17-year old?
A: A very shy and happy-go-happy person
Q: What was your favorite high school memory?
A: My favorite high school memory would have to be working on the musical and our football team won the WPIAL. One highlight of my high school career was being in the same graduating class as Joe Namath.
Q: What did you initially want to go to college for?
A: What I originally wanted to go to college for was to get into public relations, and then, somewhere down the line, I changed it to be a teacher.
Q: What were the goals you had for yourself?
A: To get a job, finish college and that was about it.
Q: What activities were you involved in when you were 17?
A: I was in the drama club, the stage crew and the marching band.
Q: Do you have advice for your students?
A: If you have a dream, work towards that dream and don’t let anybody take it away from you.
