Last November, former president Donald Trump was re-elected to serve his second four-year term in office. Trump gained the votes of the younger generations due to his influence across social media, which helped put him ahead in the race for presidency. As of recently, Trump has initiated many controversial policies into the United States of America.
Trump started his first day in office stating he would start mass deportations on any illegal immigrant that has resided in the country. Although he did not do this on his first official day, he had started the process of ruling out numerous executive orders across the country.
Trump first started by renaming the Gulf of Mexico. Although other countries across the world do not have to recognize the new name, “Gulf of America,” many news outlets and officials in the country have already started recognizing this new name, as one of the president’s first acts.
“Although I am not up to date on all of the new policies President Trump has implemented, from what I have heard, I believe that there are more important matters to deal with instead,” Phoenix Richards (11) said.
Keeping his word, on hissecond day in office, Trump started the deportations of illegal immigrants. Trump enacted this movement by using a law that was created in 1798 known as the Alien Enemies Act. Trump has been doing this with the help of the U.S Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). ICE started by hitting major cities around the country, like New York City, Los Angeles and Houston. It is legal for ICE to enter schools in the U.S., and citizens have already begun protecting children that are prone to the accusations of being an “Alien.” There were also confirmed stories of ICE raiding local Mexican restaurants in the township of Cranberry.
Trump also issued a temporary pause on federal agency loans. This affects millions within the country and puts hospitals and schools at risk of losing these funds. Citizens have already begun fighting back on this order with claims that he cannot constitutionally freeze these funds.
Trump began challenging the way people are able to gain citizenship within the country by trying to revoke birthright citizenship. Trump falsely claimed that those in the U.S. illegally are not “subject to the jurisdiction thereof.” Officials are in the process of fighting this order, claiming it violates the rights in the 14th Amendment.
The concerns of the environment around the world have sparked alarm for a few decades. Trump’s new plan, informally known as “Drill, Baby, Drill,” has sparked concerns around the globe. His plan involves more drilling within regions of the United States, causing concern for the environment, and the wildlife within it.
“I think that Donald Trump’s recent executive orders can pose growth to the United States at the expense of nature, drilling oil and pulling out of climate initiatives, damaging the world’s effort to prevent this,” Helena
Most recently, Trump implemented a plan to eliminate the Department of Education. In order to do so, Trump has to gain the approval of Congress to be able to fully initiate this plan. While Trump can reduce the amount of money the department gets, essentially damaging it, he cannot fully eliminate it without the support of Congress. In the past, this issue had been proposed to Congress before, being more popular in support of Republicans, but it was never passed.
