The 2024 presidential election is finally over, and not everyone is happy about the outcome. Former President Donald Trump was reelected to be the 47th president of the United States. After the election results were final, some individuals started to revolt through a movement they called the 4B movement.
The 4B movement was originally started in South Korea. The movement itself was designed for women to pledge against men. It allows women to stand up to the conservative political environment and reclaim their reproductive rights. The “B“ in 4B stands for bihon, bichulsan, biyeonae, and bisekseu. In Korean, these four words translate to the refusal of marriage, childbirth, dating, and sexual relationships with the male gender. These four rules also stand for the four prohibited acts, which is where the name “4” B movement came from.
After multiple people posted videos of themselves shaving their heads on social media platforms, an ongoing issue was expressed by citizens. Feminist women decided to shave their heads to create a “less attractive“ appearance. Why are women shaving their heads and participating in these dramatic statements?
The short answer is that women are participating in these acts to stand their ground. They see this movement as a way to regain their power. Therefore, shaving their heads so men will not want to date, marry, have children, or have sexual relations with them.
Women who are already married to men have chosen to protest in different ways. For example, some plan on refusing to work for male-owned businesses or do emotional labor for men. These types of protests seem much more realistic and effective. Citizens seem to pay more attention to an impact rather than an appearance.
There are alternative protests that have been made by feminist women that have effectively changed people’s perspectives. For example, the Women’s march that occurred after Roe v Wade was overturned by government officials. The Supreme Court originally passed Roe v Wade on January 22, 1973, to protect women’s constitutional right to choose. For decades, women had the choice to receive an abortion if they wanted.
On June 24, 2022, Roe v Wade was overturned by the Supreme Court. This decision affected women all around the United States. There was a worldwide fear that the Trump Administration would do a complete ban on abortion rights when Trump took office again. Women are scared their rights will be taken away. So, different groups of women chose to march in multiple states to bring attention to the issue. Many government officials and legislators noticed this protest more than they noticed the 4B movement.
Both Democratic and Republican views on this movement are understandable. It is difficult for women to feel like Trump is against them, but there could be other ways to go about it. Nobody can change the fact that Trump won the recent election. Do not waste your time trying to change who is in office, try to change the minds of who is office. It is beneficial to reach out to local legislators to voice your opinions and concerns. This can help slowly make a difference in the issue at hand. As a society, most can move past it. Not everyone has to agree with the results, but the 4B movement will not change the fact that Trump will be in office in January 2025.
