As one of the most unforgettable school years begins to wrap up, students are excited and looking forward to the upcoming summer. Last year was a summer not many people expected to have. Due to COVID-19, many people had to cancel plans such as vacations. Other things like concerts and festivals were canceled as well. This was a bummer to many people. Canceling a vacation that may have taken months to plan, or not being able to see the artist you have been dying to see in person left many people discouraged. However, this summer might be looking a little different. There are more things open, and more events are being planned in local communities, such as concerts and fairs. While still following social distancing orders, this summer could still be a step up from last year.

Julia Mohrbacher (10)

“My favorite part of summer is running sports camps with my family, and I love the warm weather as well as getting to go swimming. For vacation plans this summer, my family and I will be taking our annual trip to Lake Erie, where we get to camp right by the beach. It is a lot of fun and countless memories are made there,” Mohrbacher said.

Annaray Hatt (10)

“I do not have any vacation plans because of the sports I play. I do summer volleyball starting in June until my season for school begins. My favorite part about summer is that I am always with my grandma, and we always have somewhere to go and something to do. This summer we are heading to an amish town and I am planning to ride a horse buggy,” Hatt said.

Morgan Keller (9)

“This summer I am going to regionals with my club soccer team that I play for. If we win, we will be going to Indiana for nationals two weeks later. I will really hope we can pull out a win, and end on a high note as a team. Later on in the summer season, my family and I plan to travel to Myrtle Beach for vacation. We will leave around the second week of August,” Keller said.

Many students and families have plans to travel this summer. Others also plan to spend time with friends and participate in sports and community activities, such as running sports camps for kids. As the weather gets warmer and the sun begins to shine brighter each day, many students and teachers are ready to start their summer and have a break from a very unusual school year.
