We’ve made it 36 weeks, now there are just nine to go. The light at the end of the tunnel for this school year is finally becoming visible; you can practically feel it. Unfortunately, we still have a ways to go. For students like myself, the start of the fourth nine weeks brings more laziness than any other time of the school year. I won’t lie; I’m the epitome of a sloth at this time. I’ll be the first to admit that I’m too busy thinking about summer than to be worried too much about school. How many hours of sleep can I get in the next three months? Is this the year that, just maybe, I’ll get a tan? With a whole quarter of the year to get through and finals approaching, this is definitely not the way to be. Many students at FHS feel that there is no need to do anything for the rest of the year now that three-fourths of the school year has passed. “Oh, I have an entire essay due tomorrow? Well it’s the fourth nine weeks anyways, so how about not?” If you say you haven’t done this, you are lying. Once you neglect to do homework for quite a while, and your grades have basically plummeted, you’ll wish you had taken things more seriously earlier. Then comes the moment you have all been waiting for: finals week. It’s approximately one hundred percent worse than midterm week. Most people want school to be over, and this is yet another thing between us and our vacations. Final exams shouldn’t be taken lightly, though. You still have half a year’s worth of material to be studying, so the same preparations should be made that you had for midterms. Only maybe this time, do some studying outside, if it’s a really nice day. If you have allergies, study by a window, because those flowers can be brutal. And if you didn’t study for midterms, I highly suggest you do this time around. When spring fever hits you this year, as it ultimately will, just remember that school is not over yet! I can guarantee you that, even on the most beautiful days of spring when you’re dying to spend time outside doing whatever it is you do, there will be some kind of project or paper you have to work on. It will be the worst feeling in the world. But just think: only two and half more months, and you’re free to spend every day doing whatever you want. As you start procrastinating on every single assignment given to you, and I know that I will, just remember that these nine weeks are just as important as the others and deserves the same attention. You’ll have an entire summer to not do anything with if you please, so don’t start early, and I’ll try not to either. Deep breaths, FHS; we can get through this.
