What is procrastination? Furthermore, why do we procrastinate? Procrastination is the action of delaying or postponing something. Honestly, though, it’s just a bunch of excuses that make you feel better about doing something else rather than the actual task at hand. Nobody wants to go home and do homework when they could be playing the newest video game or going to the mall. Sometimes homework just has to be done… or does it?
Some people say that they procrastinate but they still get everything done. My only problem with this is that it probably wasn’t the best work they could’ve done. If you write a paper 20 minutes before it’s due, even if you get a decent grade, it could have been better if you spent more time on it.
Procrastinating is a horrible habit, especially for high school students. This habit is a hard one to break, but it can be done. Here are some tips to help break the habit of procrastinating:
First, buy a planner. They help more than you think. A planner can help in many ways: knowing what work you need done, providing checklists and making sure the work is done when it needs to be done.
Next, do homework immediately after school. Don’t put it off; get it over with. Going home and relaxing or taking a nap right after school promotes the excuse making to begin. After a while, time will have passed by and the work will still be undone.
Lastly, get as much done in school as possible. Everyone has AAP, so use it! The more work that is done at school, the less work that will have to be done at home.
Procrastinating might seem like a wonderful idea at times. We all get stressed and sometimes need a break. However, in the long run, your stress will be reduced if you complete tasks when you are supposed to complete them. Getting things done as soon as possible is easier and gives you time to perfect your assignment. Procrastinating can affect your grades immensely, which can greatly impact your future. Even worse, if it is for a group project, it can affect everyone else’s grades, too. Don’t procrastinate. Take these steps to heart, and watch the grades soar.
