While the girls’ volleyball team has been progressing through the season, they have played some formidable opponents. During this season, so far, the girls are 4-11 overall, and 1-9 in sections. While the season is at the end, the girls are still working hard to improve their game. While the freshmen, sophomores and juniors have more years left for improvement, the seniors are finishing their last season. Freshman, Kameron Haskey, got to spend her freshman season playing alongside her older sister, Jenna Haskey, in her senior season. During their time together they learned how to work together on and off the court.
“It’s been amazing. I’m very happy to get a year to play with my sister one last time before she graduates,” freshman, Kameron Haskey said.
While the players are working hard to improve their skills and technique, the coaches are also working hard to improve the team. Head coach, George Bellinger, and assistant coach, Jocelyn Cracker continue five practices a week and hour-long practices to improve the team’s skill and chemistry.
Coming back from injury, junior Anabelle Komolos started her season off with some fresh faces. She started the season in a game against Quaker Valley where the girls were defeated with a score of 3-0.
“It was definitely nerve racking, but now I’m back on my groove and it feels amazing. I can’t wait to work hard in my off-season!” Komlos said.
As Komolos returned, sophomore Phoenix Richards suffered from a game-ending ankle injury. During the game against Our Lady of Sacred Heart (OLSH), Richards went up to block the ball and sprained her ankle.Cassidy Harris had to work hard to cover Richards once she was taken off the court by playing as a middle blocker against OLSH. Finishing the game, the team was defeated by OLSH after a hard-fought battle. Once Richards was checked out by the new athletic director she was cleared to continue to play and came back on the court against Hopewell on Oct. 11.
During the senior night game against Hopewell, Seniors Jenna Haskey and Harris played some of their last games of volleyball ever, and as they did they learned some beneficial skills other than volleyball from the team.
“Volleyball taught me how important communication skills are, and how communication is a necessity on and off the court,” Harris said.
Even after the season ended coaches Bellinger and Cracker work to further the team’s chemistry with one another, as well as prepare themselves for the next season. While the school season ends for many, Bellinger offers a club league for the girls to continue their understanding and practice of the sport. The group continues to work hard to play even better for next season.
