FHS considering Pitt College in High School Classes
Mr. Steven Mott had spoken with students currently taking Advanced Placement (AP) classes, and students in Honors Pre-Calculus about offering classes with the University of Pittsburgh rather than offering the four different AP classes in years to come. Students will be able to be taught Pitt classes in either Biology, Chemistry, Calculus or Psychology and can receive college credits rather than AP credits.
Band uniform fundraiser
At the board meeting on Oct. 13, Ms. Emily Rickard pitched the idea to the school board about a fundraiser to use the old band uniforms. This fundraiser would turn the old band uniforms into tote bags, pillows, and wall art for alumni and community members to buy to help support the band to buy new equipment they may need.
Students of the month
Mr. Steven Mott and Mr. Jeffery Griffith award high school Student of the Month Awards for October 2022. The theme for this month was “Work Ethic” The freshmen were Libby Smith and James Pawelkoski, the sophomores were Abby Kennedy and Devin Barnhart, the juniors were Libby Coe and Colten Ditmore, and the seniors were Erica Rosa and Luke Snavely.
High school resource officer retiring
High school resource officer, Officer Tom Liberty, will be retiring from Freedom Area School District on Monday, October 31, 2022. Liberty has been with the district for 8 years. Liberty started the school resource officer program here at Freedom, he was the first one here in the district.
