STUDENTS RECEIVE STUDENT OF THE MONTH AWARDS FOR DECEMBER AND JANUARY
The eight students were awarded December’s Student of the Month for the theme: Mindful and Supportive. These students are Lillian Stragand (9), Brennen Vucinic (9), Peyton Ward (10), Matthew Haslett (10), Sylvia Ruck (11), Lorenzo Pessolano (11), Olivia Henderson (12) and Christopher Denkovich (12).
Additionally, eight students were awarded January’s student of the month for: Positive Attitude. These students are Hannah Houy (9), Easton Ward (9), Rylie Vojtko (10), Michael Humphrey (10), Saphronia Volland (11), Noah Carney (11), Harmony Martin (12) and Ryan Fessler (12).
SANTA NAMED T.H.I.N.K. AWARD RECIPIENT
At the board meeting on Jan. 9, Ms. Miranda Santa, high school math teacher, was awarded with the T.H.I.N.K award. This award allows there to be recognition for the teacher who has gone above and beyond during the second nine weeks.
INCLEMENT WEATHER CAUSES DISTRICT TO REVISE SCHOOL CALENDAR
Due to the severe weather conditions, Freedom Area cancelled school on Monday, Jan. 6. This has caused the 2024-2025 school calendar to be revised. Students will not need to make up this missed day. However, updates to the calendar for administration and staff inludes: Wednesday, Apr. 16 will be an Act 80 day and Thursday, Apr. 17 will be an In-Service day.
HIGH SCHOOL OFFERS ADDITIONAL COURSES
On Jan. 16, a school board meeting approves additional courses to be added to the list of classes students can take. Three were approved. CHS US History I and II, Modern US History/Civics and Government and Partners in Physical Education are the new 2025-2026 classes.
STUDENTS FACE TEACHERS IN VOLLEYBALL COMPETITION
Student Government hosted a volleyball competition on Jan. 8. The winners against the high school teams were Morgan Blank (9), Bella Daniele (9), Emily Lawrence (9), Cameron Stumpf (9), Boden Hilliard (11) and Colton Blank (11). These students will all face off against a team of teachers during an unknown day for PLT. Watch for any further announcements. “I was the setter for my team and I felt like we were crushing it. I set Colton up as he spiked it down on the other team. It was really rewarding to win after working so hard for it. I was really exciting considering most of us are volleyball players.”
