Following the cancellation of both of their meets in January, Indoor Track members were ready for their first meet, which was held on Feb. 1 at Edinboro University. Being an all day event, team members left in a van from FHS at 7:30 a.m. for the hour and a half drive to Edinboro.
Freshman Jarrett Boyd, Juniors Tina Davis, Danny Conrad, Brenton Harrison, Kayleigh Roberts and Senior Gigi DeWeese were in attendance, along with Coach Ed Shephard.
Out of all the competitors at the meet, Conrad placed second in the mile with a time of 4:58.
“I felt awesome,” Conrad said. “That was one of my best times at an indoor track event.”
Conrad, DeWeese, Roberts and Boyd all ran in the mile with both DeWeese and Davis running the 400 meter. Conrad and Boyd both competed in the 800 meter run, and Harrison was the only member from Freedom who competed in the jumping events.
The next meet was to be held on Feb. 15, but yet again, it was cancelled due to further heating issues.
Championships were held the following week on Feb. 22, but athletes only had one meet to qualify for championships as opposed to the typical four. Because of this, schools were allowed to submit two athletes per event. This allowed all members from the team to qualify for the championship meet.
On Feb. 22, Conrad, Harrison, Sophomore Trevor Adams and Boyd all competed in the TSTCA Indoor Track and Field Championships.
Conrad placed 18th in the 800 meter run and 22nd in the mile. Boyd, who also competed in the 800 and the mile, placed 28th and 26th, respectively.
Harrison placed 8th overall for men’s high jump, clearing 5’9”. Additionally, Harrison competed in the long jump, where he placed 32nd.
Adams placed 21 for men’s shot-put.
