Have you ever wanted to expand your education experience? Luckily, the high school has always had a wide variety of class choices. Each school year, Freedom provides classes that enable students to express and enjoy themselves. Freedom offers classes that are unique to the school. It is a priority for faculty to create classes that include everyone’s interest, as having new classes allows students to find subjects that could possibly help them in their future career.
Fortunately, Freedom has three new classes available for high school students this year. These classes include Philosophy and Sports History taught by Mr. Cole Eged, Modern Novels taught by Ms. Andrea Niedbala and High School Exploration taught by Mr. Kenneth Dickey.
Philosophy and Sports History is offered to students in grades 10-12. The course content starts off by teaching students inductive and deductive reasoning. The beginning of the semester focuses on learning about the introduction to philosophy, and then it proceeds into the moral of philosophy. This course gives students a better understanding of how philosophy was viewed in ancient times.
“[Philosophy and Sports History] is going well. It’s a good way for kids to start thinking about how the world is and how the world should be, compared to just passively going through life,” Eged said.
Modern Novels is a class offered for students in grades 10-12. Students in the course read and discuss contemporary novels geared toward issues faced by the youth today. This class truly gives students the perspective of the real world. Many of the novels read are discussing issues faced by urban and city communities that help students get a deeper understanding of the world around them.
High School Exploration is a required course for all ninth grade students. This course benefits the students by teaching them the skills to become successful in high school. High School Exploration is on a nine-week rotation following Freshman Fundamentals, Intro to Art, Intro to Woodshop and Intro to Digital Media Design. All four of these subjects are crucial for the freshmen class to learn, due to the fact that it teaches them basic learning criteria.
The biggest characteristic of Freshman Fundamentals is that it is designed to help freshman students have a comfortable transition from middle to high school. It allows the students to meet emotional and social challenges that they may encounter over their four years of high school.
