High School adds six to its staff
Mr. Mark Cerofalo, the new hall moniter, was previously a substitute teacher at Blackhawk for three years specializing in social studies. His intentions of keeping Freedom safe this year include “having zero serious incidents.” Cerofalo is interested in mountain-biking and reading The Bible.
Ms. Jessica Hammer works as a learning aide. Hammer graduated from Robert Morris in May 2014; she also student taught at College Square Elementary School from Jan. 2014 to May 2014. This past summer Hammer taught summer school at the YMCA. Hammer has hopes that “my students [are] able to reach her academic goals and do [her] best to fulfill those needs.” In her free time, Hammer enjoys working out, spending time with her friends and family and of course, shopping.
Mrs. Renee Boyd, working as an aide, previously worked at Freedom Area Middle School for a year and a half. With all of the students that Mrs. Boyd is assisting, she “just wants to help them all.” Mrs. Boyd enjoys taking care of her three kids and going to the movies with her husband in her free time.
Mr. Bill Cairns, also an aide, has background in special education and worked in MH/MR (Mental Health and Mental Retardation) for 15 years. Cairns hopes to “help the students he assists in meeting their expectations.” In his free time, Cairns enjoys being with his family and his grandchildren, playing softball, reading books and gardening.
Mr. Jeff Griffith, a special education teacher, was previously a teacher in Ohio for seven years but moved to Pennsylvania to be closer to family. He hopes to help kids learn and be successful. “I have worked here for three weeks and I am already so excited. I enjoy being around the students and staff,” Griffith said. In his free time, Griffith enjoys spending time with nine year old son and playing golf.
Mrs. Blaire Lasko came to Freedom in Fall 2007. She has held the majority of jobs that were open to her in the teaching aspect. Lasko previously taught Communications but is now teaching English Literature, and she hopes “that the students pass the Keystones and they like me.” Outside of school, Lasko likes to “nerd out on the Internet,” bake, play softball and read books such as the Hunger Games and the Divergent Series.
