On Oct. 11, 2012, Mr. Frank Hernandez, former history teacher and current head football coach, was promoted to assistant principal of Freedom Area High School. This was all decided and finalized at the school board meeting on that Thursday evening. “I’m excited about the help from Mr. Hernandez making sure you guys get the best education you deserve,” Mr. Timothy Dadich said. Hernandez and Dadich have definitely set goals for this year. “Getting everybody on the same page is probably the biggest goal we have set for this year,” Dadich said. “Hopefully we can do this soon so we can start taking the input of students for change this year.” “I am mostly excited about working with teachers and students and helping them achieve their goals and realize their dreams,” Hernandez said. Hernandez plans to keep his strong relationships with his former students, but also wants them to realize that even though he is the same person, he and Dadich are the main disciplinarians of the school. “I really just want to help schools become 21st century learning environments where students and teachers work together to achieve academic success,” Hernandez said. Hernandez is very confident that he will be able to succeed in these goals as long as the students are willing to work with him on improving and staying on the same page. Hernandez is still the head football coach of the Freedom Bulldogs. “I think I’m going to do well at managing both being the assistant principal and head football coach,” Hernandez said. “Being the assistant principal is obviously my career and is where my priority lies; coaching football is more like my hobby. Kids like to draw cartoons or collect trading cards; my hobby is coaching football.” Hernandez is excited and ready for the challenge of managing both assistant principal and head football coach. “A lot of people congratulated me and seemed happy about my new position and I’m excited to be the best I can be for them,” Hernandez said.
