The swim team is back and expects to have a great season. Due to the fact that Freedom High School has no pool, the team is practicing at the Sunrise pool in New Brighton. This isn’t stopping the team from getting excited though. “I’m excited about having a new and bigger team to swim with,” Sophomore Josh Battaglia said. Battaglia is also excited about the new starting blocks, which are used to dive into the pool, giving swimmers a better start into the water. Under the direction of Mr. Bill Layton once again, the athletes set individual goals and team goals. “We have a lot more people this year. We really just want to have fun, but our main focus is competing with the teams this year and making a statement at MACS,” Battaglia said. “I want to make it to MACS and cheer on the team at WPIALS” Senior Tippin Harkins said. This is Harkins’ second and final year swimming, and she is excited for the competition to start. The team is now bigger, better and ready to make a statement.
