“On me, on we! On me, on we! On me, on we!” the girls’ soccer team chants before every game. The girls’ soccer team performs some rituals before games for luck. Blasting and singing music gets the team pumped for every game. Sometimes, the team even enjoys meditating, which is similar to quiet time, Senior Co-captain Sara Allego said. They are tied for third in the section with a record of 4-4 and they are planning on winning the rest of the season. “We can handle our section this year,” said Captain and Goalie Mackenzie McGurgan. At last year’s game, the soccer team had trouble beating Neshannock and lost by one goal. This year, the team came out with a win. Sara Allego scored the winning goal; however, the team couldn’t have won without their goalie, Mackenzie McGurgan, who held a shutout against Neshannock. The team bonded a good amount this season. They participated in a ropes course at Geneva, which was based on trust; the team had to climb huge poles and help each other get over the walls. They also had a sleepover, but the most important bonding time of all was summer camp. “Each day is geared towards team bonding, [by doing things] such as trust falls and telling deep secrets and stories,” Junior Captain Emilee Handyside said. So far, the only game that they won by an extreme amount was against Southside: the final score was 8-0. Eight goals is a crazy win, Junior Co-Captain Brittany Mavrich said. Unfortunately, the underclassmen will have to say good-bye to this year’s seniors. Even though they don’t look forward to losing the seniors, they will always remember the fun moments from their last year. “In their class picture, they hung off the goal,” said Freshman Jessica Palak. Freshman Casey Spieler will miss the seniors because they are really fun and outgoing. “I think we always find a way to come together…but they’ve done a good job at that,” Coach John Mohrbacher said. He is very proud of the team this year. Their theme has been coming together to make a good story for the season.
