The girls’ basketball team started their season determined to improve their skills from last year. “I think our team has improved drastically. We work together more than the past seasons. It shows because we are actually competing in our section and winning games,” Senior Maddi Lewis said. Avonworth is considered to be one of the hardest girls’ basketball teams to beat. The team beat Avonworth 74-72. After defeating Avonworth, the girls are working with the playoffs on their minds. “Avonworth was our most memorable game because we proved to ourselves and everyone that we are contenders and can win if we believe,” Junior Joanne Barlamas said. “Our main goals are to finish the second half of the section strong in hopes of obtaining a playoff spot,” Lewis said. In order to obtain the playoff spot, focus is a must for the team. “Focus is always really important when playing any sport. Our team has our moments. There are times when we focus very well, and times when we don’t,” Lewis said The girls are excited to try to conquer their way to the playoffs. “I’m looking forward to making each other better and enjoying the rest of the season with fun and reaching our goal,” Barlamas said.
