Gears of War 3: the perfect end to an amazing trilogy. This game is the third and final addition to the epic Gears of War story. For those of us who don’t know about this video game, I’ll catch you up. Gears of War is a third person shooter where you play as a member of the C.O.G, or Coalition of Ordered Government. In this world, all humans have a common enemy called the Locusts. They live underground and don’t look human at all. Ever since they left their home deep in earth, there has been a war between Locusts and Humans. In both the first and second games you play as Marcus. You play as Marcus most of the third but for a little bit in the campaign you play as Cole Train. This is one feature of this game I enjoyed very much; it was a nice switch up. So what’s new about the third game besides the fact you play as Cole? Well there are 4 new weapons, 3 new characters, a revamped horde mode and a new game mode called Beast mode. The four new weapons are the double barrel shotgun, the one shot, the retro lancer and the digger. There are also new grenades which are incendiary grenades. All these new weapons are cool, but they have some downfalls. I personally don’t like the digger or the double barrel. The digger is like the boom shot, if you are familiar, except the digger fires a grenade that digs underground and pots out by the enemy. I don’t like this weapon because it seems to hard to aim and get it to come out of the ground where you want. The double barrel is a very powerful weapon and can kill practically any enemy with one shot, however you need to be extremely close and it is a slow reload. This type of weapon is just not how I play the game. The one shot is a very big, almost turret-like sniper rifle that can kill almost any enemy with one shot, hence its name. The downfall is that you can’t sprint when carrying it, and you can’t put it in one of your weapon slots. The retro lancer is just a different version of the already known lancer. The normal lancer comes with a chainsaw on the bottom that can be used for some gruesome stuff. The retro lancer comes with a bayonet on the bottom that is used like a normal bayonet. I personally like the retro lancer the best out of all the guns in the game because it is powerful, and you can always find ammo for it. The hard thing about the retro lancer is that it has a lot of recoil and is hard to control, but when you get good at it the retro lancer is one deadly weapon. As far as the new characters, there is Clayton Carmine, Jace Stratton and Samantha Byrne. Carmine is the brother of Anthony and Benjamin Carmine. In the first game there was Anthony Carmine, but sadly, he died. So in the second game there was Ben Carmine, Anthony’s brother, and unfortunately, he died too. So now there is the third Carmine brother and his name is Clayton. I’m not going to tell you if he dies or not, you’ll just have to play Gears of War 3 and find out. If you haven’t noticed the three Carmine brothers are A., B. and C. Carmine. I think the Gears of War development team did that on purpose. On to the new features of the game. Horde mode is back and much better than the first version of horde on Gears of War 2. Horde mode is when you and your friends can battle waves of enemies. There are 50 waves, and the enemies get stronger after every tenth wave. The new version of horde has the same basic essentials; however, the points earned from killing enemies can be spent on defensive systems, such as barriers and turrets. Also, something new with this horde: every ten waves there is a boss round were you fight one of the bosses from the campaign. The new horde is much funner than the old, in my opinion. If I were to rate this game I’d give it 10 out of 10. This game was an amazing wrap up to the ever-present fight between Humans and Locusts.
