Valentine’s Day is a very popular holiday that celebrates love and affection. People often feel left out during Valentine’s Day because they do not have a significant other, but everyone has someone that they adore. To make people feel more included, a new holiday tradition emerged, which is known as Galentine’s Day. Galentine’s Day is a holiday that is slowly becoming more popular. It celebrates close friendships between women. Women all around the world can celebrate Galentine’s Day because it is for everyone, including women with significant others.

Galentine’s Day has an interesting history to it. Leslie Knope, a woman who was writing a book called “Parks and Recreation”, thought of the idea and decided to include it to spread the word. The character in the book came up with the holiday to honor her close friends. Knope started celebrating with her friends to honor them. Galentine’s Day started off as an unknown holiday, but after people read her book, it immediately skyrocketed so much that businesses started promotions in honor of Galentine’s Day. Some businesses would give discounts for group activities and others would give discounts on food for the parties.

Galentine’s Day is more popular among the younger generation as opposed to older women. Friend groups will plan a day to celebrate their friendship. One of the girls will host the party, which means that girl must create invitations for her friends. The group of girls will come to the party dressed in pink or red and ready to celebrate. Typically, they will play games, eat food, watch movies and have a slumber party afterwards. Most parties also have a photo area set up where they will take group pictures to share with everyone.

“I really enjoy Galentine’s Day parties, especially with my friends. My favorite part of the party was playing games,” senior Madison Meyer said.

For the next couple of years, Galentine’s Day will likely continue to rise and become more popular. Women around the world are becoming more grateful for their friendships. Galentine’s Day will also continue to rise because it includes women that do not have a significant other, allowing more people to get involved. Younger generations will continue to throw Galentine’s Day parties with their friends as a way to celebrate their friendship. Galentine’s Day parties could possibly become more popular among older women as well.

“I feel that Galentine’s Day is important because hanging out with my friends can be really fun, and it always makes my day better,” junior Annabelle Komlos said.
