Recently at FHS there have been some additions to the students learning here. Who are these mysterious guests that don’t look like they are in high school? They are student teachers, of course.
Currently, Mr. Lucas Gray is currently a student teacher who has been teaching math alongside Mr. John Rosa for the past month. Gray is from Geneva College and is currently studying to obtain a degree in math education.
“The students here are friendly; I’ve been welcomed and I’m seeing positive results in my classes,” Gray said.
Students have enjoyed getting to know and learn from Gray.
“I think he is a nice person. He’s shown so far that he is good at communicating to the class what he is trying to teach,” Junior Jericho Barkley said.
Teaching a class, along with guiding a soon-to-be teacher, can be quite a challenge. Some teachers really enjoy having a student teacher in their classes.
“Having a student teacher has been good experience for me. Mr. [Timothy] Dadich approached me to see if I was willing to help out, and I was very willing to have him come into my classroom.” Rosa said. “It’s definitely an adjustment for myself and the students, but this is a great way for new teachers to get prepared to enter the teaching profession.”
Gray is not the only student teacher to be studying alongside the students at FHS.
Ms. Elizabeth Doyle spent three weeks in Mrs. Kelly Krawchyk’s classroom last month to complete her pre-student teaching.
Mr. Keith Kovalic has also recently announced that he will have a student teacher in the near future.
