The Freedom High School Band and Chorus held their annual Christmas concert in the high school auditorium the week before winter break.
The students that are a part of the FHS band began practicing and preparing for this special show roughly two weeks before the football season came to an end. After the football season concluded, they directed all of their attention towards this show. Musicians began sight-reading, getting new music, practicing and learning the music, according to Sophomore Carly Park.
The songs played at the concert included: “Need a Little Christmas,” “Vaughan Williams Christmas,” “Home for the Holidays,” “Christmas Chopsticks,” “Christmas Day,” “O Holy Night,” “Jingle Bells,” “Hark the Herald Angels Swing,” “Santa Baby,” “Silent Night,” “Christmas Day,” “Nutcracker Suite” and “Holiday Season.”
Most of the musical selections were just fragments of the actual songs.
This year the band focused their efforts on performing songs from the ballet “The Nutcracker.”
While the 7th and 8th grade choirs were at attendance for the show, they did more than just sing. They wrote the song “Christmas Day,” which they sang with the high school choir.
While she may not be a student, Mrs. Joyce Bonzo made an appearance, reading a bible verse during one of the songs sung by the choir.
Amongst all of this, Jennifer Wallis, Courtney Schreiner, Desiree Davis, Tina Davis, Mariah Kerr and Kali Ralston also danced on stage alongside the band to “The Nutcracker.”
