Being a student athlete benefits students during high school
Homerun, touchdown, ace, goal! People often think that sports in high school can interfere with a student’s academics and are more harmful than helpful. However, sports teach students the importance of teamwork, communication, dedication, time management and prioritizing.
Being a student athlete helps people learn how to manage their time wisely in order to balance out their academics, personal lives and their sports. Sports also give athletes motivation to get better grades so they are always eligible to participate and to make themselves stand out more to different colleges.
Sports also teach athletes the importance of teamwork and how working as one cohesive group can easily get people closer to their common goal of success. Whether that is on the field/court or in the classroom, student athletes tend to know how to carry their own weight since they have to while playing a team sport. It teaches athletes how to overcome any impediments you may face as a team and to not to give up so easily.
Dedication and commitment are both very important in people’s everyday life. Sports teach students this at a young age by having them come to practices at what seems to be the most inconvenient hours of the day and putting in their best effort during all their games.
Sports offer more than most extracurricular activities do in relation to opportunities beyond high school. There are several scholarships given out to athletes and several athletes that continue to play sports in college can end up playing for a professional team.
Being a student athlete is very beneficial for students and teaches them very important life lessons that they can carry on with them after the final buzzer rings and after they throw their graduation caps in the air. Even if they decide to not participate in sports beyond school, they will always remember lessons and memories they collected while they participated.
