As the end of the school year comes to a close, students start preparing for prom. While most girls work on getting their dresses and accessories, guys get ready by picking out their tuxedos and ties. For most students, prom is one of the most memorable moments, especially for seniors.

“My favorite thing about prom is getting my makeup done,” junior Brooke Stragand said. “I enjoy having someone else doing my makeup and seeing how it turns out.”

This year, chosen by the junior class officers, the theme was “Floating Lights”. The inspiration for this theme came from the popular Disney princess movie, “Tangled.” The dance was held on May 18.

As the prom season came around, the junior class officers talked about how they wanted to do prom, and this led to quite a few abrupt changes to the dance. Ms. Mcilvain was the new junior class sponsor after the retirement of Mr. John Rosa. In past years, the dance was held at the Courtyard by the Marriott Hotel in Cranberry Township, but the junior class officers decided to switch where the annual dance would be held. This year’s prom was held at The Club at Shadow Lakes in Aliquippa.

Another change came along as well. Normally, in past years, students attending would be required to stay from 9:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m., and after that, they would be able to leave and go home. Since there have been numerous complaints from faculty and students about having to stay until the morning in years prior, the junior class officers, under the recommendation of Mr. Steven Mott, decided to change the time of the dance from 7:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m., allowing students to get home at a more reasonable time.

“As junior class officers, planning prom is part of the position. Our goal this year was to listen to feedback from students and make the changes that students wanted to see made,” junior Christopher Denkovich said.

The students arrived at the school for the Grand March at 4:40 p.m., and the Grand March itself started at 5:15 p.m., allowing time for families and friends to see the students in their dance attire before the send-off. The Grand March is required for all students to attend in order to be allowed to attend prom.

After the Grand March came to an end, students headed off to the The Club at Shadow Lakes.  When the students arrived they had the opportunity to feast on food that was provided by the junior class. After many students ate, most took the dance floor where they would spend the rest of their night listening to music and dancing.

“I loved prom so much,” senior Skylar Scobbo said. “It was agreat time and I got to see all of my friends dressed up. We were able to spend the night together and make so many memories with each other over great food and music. It was overall such a fun experience!”
